Efficient use of water and its reuse for adaptation to climate change in Macaronesia

Researchers from the University Institute of Environmental Studies and Natural Resources (i-UNAT) in collaboration with members of the company AIRDRONE3D and within the framework of the ADAPTaRES Project - "Efficient use of water and its reuse for adaptation to climate change in Macaronesia", participated in several flights with a multispectral camera over the experimental plots located in the ETARs of Santa Cruz and Santa Catarina on the island of Santiago (Cape Verde).

From 5 to 12 July 2019, members of GEOVOL research groups within the AGRO-AGUA line, attached to the Instituto Universitario de Estudios Ambientales y Recursos Naturales (i-UNAT), together with staff from the company AIRDRONE3D, carried out several flights using a multispectral camera over the experimental plots within the project. With these flights, valuable information has been obtained that will allow important agronomic aspects of the crop to be assessed, such as the sanitary status of the plants or soil moisture.

The ADAPTaRES project, financed by the MAC 2014-2020 Programme through the European Regional Development Fund, includes a series of actions aimed at demonstrating the capacity to adapt to climate change in Macaronesia through the reuse of treated wastewater, efficient irrigation and the prevention and reduction of pollution, helping to overcome existing regulatory, social, economic or technological barriers, all accompanied by a major effort in awareness-raising, information and qualification actions at all levels of society.
